mastiff club of america journal
The mastiff club of america (mcoa) is a national club for people who breed, show and compete in dog sports with american kennel club pedigreed mastiffs. they have a bi-annual journal that is mailed to members which list the conformation, annual breeder awards, obedience and rally results from the national show held at various locations across the country each year. It also contains numerous informative articles about dogs in general and mastiffs in particular. The each perfect bound journal is approximately 100 - 108 pages in length and contains hundreds of photos that must be formatted for print as well as ads that sometimes need to be adjusted to fit the publications dimensions, taking the center fold into account.
inDesign is used for the layout itself, but photoshop is also heavily used to not only format photographs, but the newest ai generative fill features have proven invaluable for adjusting ads that often are made by non-designers in applications like canva and do not conform to the specifications of the inDesign document.
i have been given a lot of artistic freedom when it comes to typography and layout, making this a fun project. I've even done a couple of the ads for breeders and owners showcasing their dogs' accomplishments, both in the show ring and in dog sports.
